Global sports nutrition

$182K
GMV · first 5 months

The brand is one of the largest sports nutrition brands on the planet — and its TikTok Shop was doing nothing. That is the whole lesson of this one: scale does not exempt you from a channel gap. In five months the shop did $181.81K at a $30.75 average unit price, with 96.2% coming from creators and $0.00 posted by the brand itself. Amazon carried a ~19% halo lift across the same window. No new product line did the work — everything launched in the period contributed 1.4% of revenue.

01The starting pointGlobal brand, empty channel

The usual explanation for a channel gap is that the brand is too small to staff it, or too new to be known. Neither applies here. The brand is an enterprise sports nutrition business with global distribution, a mature DTC operation and one of the most recognised names in the category. Its TikTok Shop was still at zero.

01

Enormous brand equity, no shoppable presence. Recognition everywhere, conversion path nowhere.

02

A mature catalog already built for retail — not for a creator holding a phone.

03

The most contested shelf on the platform. Protein is where every supplement brand is fighting for the same creators.

04

Demand leaking to whoever captured it. Interest in the brand was being converted by competitors and resellers.

02The buildCreator engine · 4 phases

With a catalog this size the temptation is to launch something new. We did the opposite: find the SKUs that are inherently filmable, and put them in front of enough creators to prove it.

Phase 1 · Selection

Pick the products a camera can sell

  • Led with the whey isolate line franchise — a juice-like protein that looks different on screen
  • Flavour novelty as the hook: the a licensed candy flavour® collab leads the Shopping Mall ranking at $5.65K
  • Ignored the SKUs that photograph like every other tub on the shelf
A catalog edited for the feed
Phase 2 · Affiliate engine

Let creators do the talking

  • Affiliate revenue $174.90K of $181.81K — 96.2%
  • Brand's own account posted $0.00 across the full five months
  • 5.91K units at $30.75 — 39 units a day, sustained
$0 to $181.81K without a brand video
Phase 3 · Discipline

Resist the new-product reflex

  • Products launched inside the window did ~$2.5K combined — 1.4% of revenue
  • Top new launch, Creatine Gummies, contributed $976.65
  • The engine ran on catalog that already existed
The gap was never the product
Phase 4 · Amazon

Recapture the demand where it converts

  • Creator awareness lifting branded search and new-to-brand discovery
  • ~19% halo lift across the catalog
  • A category shopper who discovers a flavour on TikTok buys the tub where they already buy tubs
One shopper, monetized twice
03Who actually posted the revenue96.2% affiliate · $0.00 brand

Five months of selling, and the brand's own account contributed $0.00. Not small. Not rounded. Zero. Of $181.81K, creators posted $174.90K and Shopping Mall placement contributed $6.92K.

04What soldThe whey isolate line franchise

One franchise runs through almost every row: the whey isolate line. Isolate, isolate-with-creatine, protein water, licensed flavours — the variants change, the format doesn't. It works because a translucent, juice-like protein is visibly different on camera, and because flavour novelty gives a creator something to react to. That is not a product advantage. It's a filmability advantage.

One of the biggest protein brands in the world had a channel sitting at zero. If the brand had this gap, the assumption that your brand is too established to have one is worth testing.

Scale doesn't exempt youOne of the biggest protein brands in the world had a channel sitting at zero. If the brand had this gap, the assumption that your brand is too established to have one is worth testing.
Filmability beats noveltythe whey isolate line wins because it looks different on camera, not because it's new. Edit the catalog for what a creator can actually show — don't build something new to give them.
Distribution, not productEverything launched in five months made 1.4% of revenue. The other 98.6% already existed. The bottleneck was never the catalog.
